Can you use a MINI dealer or an independent repair facility?

Many vehicle service contracts allow covered repairs at qualified licensed facilities, which may include a MINI dealer or an independent repair shop. The contract decides which facilities qualify and how authorization and payment work.
Confirm the facility before diagnosis
Call the administrator using the contact information in your contract. Ask whether the proposed facility is eligible and whether it can communicate estimates, diagnostic results, and invoices in the required format. Then ask the facility whether it is willing to follow the administrator’s process.
Compare practical considerations
- Experience and equipment: confirm the facility can diagnose and repair the specific MINI system.
- Labor and parts: ask whether the contract has labor-rate, parts-source, or maximum-benefit provisions.
- Payment: determine whether the administrator pays the facility directly or whether reimbursement may be required.
- Timing: inspections, parts availability, estimate revisions, and administrator review can affect completion time.
Authorization still comes first
Have the facility identify the cause of failure and submit the required estimate before covered work begins. A contract may permit limited diagnosis or teardown, but you could remain responsible for those costs if the failure is not covered. Do not assume a facility’s recommendation is an authorization from the administrator.
A MINI dealer does not determine coverage
Dealer technicians can diagnose and repair vehicles, but a dealer cannot expand a separate third-party contract. Approval depends on the covered components, exclusions, limits, eligibility, and claim procedures in the issued contract. Likewise, choosing an independent facility does not automatically reduce or eliminate coverage if that facility satisfies the contract.
